Baby Massage Courses // in York
Now Booking for dates up to mid April 2025
Being massaged helps babies relax and cope better with stress, improves their muscular coordination and flexibility, improves circulatory and respiratory rhythms, as well as helping to relieve symptoms such as colic, constipation and improve digestion. It also helps you as a parent to learn useful techniques to help calm and relax your baby, create a deep connection to your baby and helps with bonding, and helps you to feel more confident with your baby too. It’s all good. Baby Massage helps facilitate the importance of loving touch, and aids in the creation of happy parent-baby relationships. Massage shows babies they are loved. Mums (or other care givers) also have the opportunity to meet other new mums, and connect and share their experiences, and find a support network who know just how you feel.
All about Baby Massage
Massage is a wonderful and special gift that you can share with your baby. Baby massage is an ancient art used in many diverse cultures to help with a variety of physical and emotional needs and to promote relaxation. Babies naturally crave skin contact. Touch is your baby’s most developed sense at birth and through it you can communicate love, security and trust to your baby immediately. Baby massage is simply a method that helps to reinforce the natural power of touch.
Baby massage will allow you to understand your baby’s subtle non verbal language and develop your ability to listen to your baby through the creation of a special intimate time together. When you massage your baby you lay down the foundations of trust and security which will help you to build a happy and confident relationship with your baby for the future.
Specific benefits for you and your baby include:
Baby massage can help relieve wind, colic, constipation, teething and much more
Baby Massage may help create and develop the bond between you and your baby
Baby Massage provides relaxation for you both
Baby Massage stimulates and supports your baby’s physical, emotional and social development
Baby Massages helps you feel more confident in handling your baby
Baby Massage is great fun to learn and a brilliant way to meet other parents and spend special time with your baby.
Science and research have confirmed that the use of skin to skin practices, nurturing touch and massage enhances the physical and emotional wellbeing of parents and babies. Studies have repeatedly shown that responsive parenting and attachment is the key to the emotional wellbeing of children. When we massage out babies we are teaching love, compassion, empathy and understanding to create positive early experiences and secure loving relationships. This has an effect on the child, the parent and society as a whole.
Benefits to you through baby massage:
Mothers can also benefit on a physical level. A mother’s breast milk can be stimulated by massaging her baby and Oxytocin, the hormone that controls feelings of well-being and the nurturing instinct, is much higher when a mother has massaged her baby.
The benefits are not just limited to the mother; studies have shown that fathers that massage their babies regularly each night before bed shows they interact much better with their babies than fathers that don’t. On the whole baby massage can help parents feel confident about handling a tiny newborn.
Massaging your baby from an early age is one of the most important forms of communication you can have with your baby. During a For Modern Mothers Baby Massage class, you will begin to learn about your baby’s non-verbal cues and discover how to communicate with your baby.
About the Baby Massage classes:
Classes are friendly and relaxed and held in a lovely warm and calming setting. Massage techniques and strokes are demonstrated to you using a doll, with emphasis on loving touch, and responding to baby’s cues and communication.
We also have time to discuss common baby behaviour that can be challenging like sleep, naps, soothing babies, babies wanting to be held (all the time!) and I can share evidence-based information to you to enable you to feel better equipped and knowledgeable about caring for your baby in a way that feels right to YOU.
There will also be time to chat and connect with the other local mums and babies in the class too over a relaxed cuppa too.
Suitable for babies from 5/6 weeks old, up crawling. There is really no upper age limit, but I usually say up to crawling as it simply depends on whether your baby is willing to lie fairly still enough to enjoy the massage.
In addition to the in person classes, you'll get to take home:
~ 50ml bottle of organic massage oil to use at home
~ Certificate of completion for your baby (a lovely keepsake)
~ A printed full colour booklet of the massage techniques for your reference to use at home
~ Unique free online video course of some of the massage techniques for you to use at home
~ Resources for a calmer motherhood and some self-care for YOU - a long guided relaxation, calm breathing techniques MP3’s
